The biggest difference: how each line defines all-inclusive

Regent’s current All-Inclusive Cruise Fare bundles many of the expenses travelers typically encounter separately. Its published core inclusions include unlimited shore excursions, specialty dining, unlimited beverages, Wi-Fi, prepaid gratuities, valet laundry and 24-hour in-suite dining. Concierge Suites and higher also receive a one-night pre-cruise hotel package, while Regent’s Ultimate All-Inclusive Fare adds air and transportation benefits.

Silversea’s current Classic-voyage All-Inclusive Fare includes its onboard luxury experience—such as butler-serviced suites, dining, wines and spirits, gratuities and Wi-Fi—but shore excursions are purchased separately. Its All-Inclusive Plus fare adds a shore-excursion credit and uses a refundable deposit. Expedition voyages have a different structure, with expedition activities and landings included under the applicable fare.

Choose Regent if you want more of the sightseeing component bundled into the fare. Choose Silversea if you prefer more control over which excursions you purchase or if its expedition program is part of the appeal.

Suites and service: two different luxury strengths

Both Regent and Silversea operate all-suite ships, so neither line requires you to move up several cabin categories simply to get a suite-style experience.

Regent is known for spacious accommodations and a high level of personalized service, with butler service beginning in Penthouse Suites and above. Silversea makes butler service a signature across its suite categories, which can be a meaningful distinction if that style of personal service is important to you.

I would not choose between these two lines based on a promise that one simply has “better food.” Ship, restaurant, itinerary and personal taste all matter. Instead, consider the overall dining style and how much variety you want on the particular ship you are considering.

Classic cruising vs. expedition travel

This is where Silversea can become the obvious choice for certain travelers. In addition to its classic luxury ships, Silversea operates expedition voyages designed for destinations where the experience ashore is the central event.

If Antarctica, the Arctic, the Galápagos or another expedition-style journey is the goal, Silversea belongs high on the list. Regent’s strength is traditional destination-focused luxury cruising rather than expedition cruising.

For the Mediterranean, Alaska, Northern Europe, Asia or other classic cruise regions, compare both lines. For a true expedition, the comparison changes substantially in Silversea’s favor.

Onboard atmosphere

Neither line is built around crowds, waterslides or nonstop attractions. Days onboard are more about good food, conversation, enrichment, comfortable public spaces and attentive service.

Regent tends to appeal to travelers who want a polished, spacious and exceptionally seamless vacation. Silversea can feel especially intimate, with its all-suite format and butler service reinforcing a residential, yacht-like style of luxury.

The atmosphere also varies by ship. Before booking, I recommend comparing the actual vessels—not just the cruise-line names.

Price and value: compare the trip you will actually take

Headline cruise fares can be misleading in an ultra-luxury comparison. A lower starting fare does not necessarily mean a lower total vacation cost, and a higher fare is not automatically better value.

With Regent, consider how much value you will receive from included excursions, beverages, dining, gratuities, Wi-Fi and laundry. With Silversea, consider the fare level you want, how many excursions you would purchase, and whether all-suite butler service or an expedition itinerary carries particular value for you.
