Virgin Voyages RockStar Suites: Are the Perks Worth the Upgrade?

Are Virgin Voyages RockStar Suites worth it? Compare suite types, Richard's Rooftop, priority access, in-room bars and Mega RockStar benefits.

Virgin Voyages calls its suites RockStar Quarters, and the experience is about more than a larger cabin. RockStar Sailors receive priority access, help from RockStar Agents, entry to Richard's Rooftop and a curated in-room bar. Mega RockStar Quarters add another level of space and benefits.

The upgrade can be worthwhile for travelers who value priority, privacy and a more spacious retreat. It may be difficult to justify when the itinerary is port-intensive or when the price difference would fund another vacation.

RockStar and Mega RockStar are not the same

The first distinction to understand is that Virgin has two suite tiers.

RockStar Quarters include suites such as the Seriously Suite, Sweet Aft Suite, Cheeky Corner Suite and Brilliant Suite. Exact inventory varies by ship and configuration.

Mega RockStar Quarters occupy the top tier. Categories include the Gorgeous, Posh, Fab and Massive Suites. These accommodations are larger and come with expanded service and beverage benefits.

Always compare the exact suite, not simply the word RockStar. A compact Seriously Suite and a Massive Suite deliver very different experiences and prices.

What RockStar status includes

Virgin's current published benefits emphasize:

The most valuable benefit may be priority rather than square footage. Restaurant and activity availability can be a point of friction on Virgin. Earlier access and onboard assistance can make the voyage feel easier.

Richard's Rooftop

Richard’s Rooftop private deck aboard Virgin Voyages
Richard’s Rooftop gives RockStar Sailors a private outdoor retreat.

Richard's Rooftop is the private outdoor area for RockStar and Mega RockStar Sailors. It provides an alternative to the busier public decks and may host a daily social hour or other programming.

The value depends on how often you use it. A private retreat matters more on a warm-weather sailing with sea days than on a cool, port-intensive itinerary. It should be considered a pleasant suite benefit, not a full ship-within-a-ship complex.

The in-room bar benefit

RockStar Quarters receive a curated in-room bar with a selected first round included. Virgin notes that the selection, quantities and sizes are subject to change and are not customizable.

Mega RockStar Quarters receive a broader beverage benefit that Virgin currently describes as a daily Bar Tab with reasonable limits, along with a bottomless in-room bar. Current limits and eligible prices should be checked before booking.

Do not value the included alcohol at its full retail price unless you would genuinely consume those selections. A benefit can be generous without being personally valuable.

What Mega RockStar adds

Mega RockStar benefits currently include:

The accommodation itself may be the main attraction. Larger terraces, outdoor showers and entertaining space can transform the cabin into a significant part of the vacation.

Which suite categories offer the best value?

The answer depends on the reason for upgrading.

Seriously Suite: A practical entry into RockStar benefits when you care more about priority and access than an enormous terrace.

Sweet Aft Suite: Appealing for wake views and a more memorable terrace, although aft location and motion should be considered.

Cheeky Corner Suite: Often attractive to travelers who want a distinctive terrace and more living space. Layout and balcony size vary by deck.

Brilliant Suite: A larger conventional suite choice for guests who want room to relax without moving into Mega RockStar pricing.

Mega RockStar categories: Best evaluated as a luxury experience rather than a simple cabin upgrade. The cost may make sense for a milestone trip, a group using the entertaining space or travelers who will use the extra service heavily.

When the upgrade is most likely worth it

RockStar can make sense when:

Mega RockStar is most defensible when you want the suite itself to be one of the vacation's central experiences.

When a Sea Terrace may be the smarter choice

A Sea Terrace may offer better value when:

Virgin's standard cabins still provide access to the same principal restaurants and entertainment. RockStar status improves access and comfort, but it does not create an entirely separate onboard product.

Calculate the upgrade honestly

Start with the exact fare difference. Then assign a realistic personal value to:

  1. Added space and terrace quality
  2. Priority booking and boarding
  3. Richard's Rooftop
  4. Drinks you would otherwise purchase
  5. Thermal Suite access or transportation benefits, if applicable
  6. The emotional value of a milestone experience

Avoid counting benefits you will not use. The best suite decision is not the one with the longest perk list. It is the one where the perks solve problems or add pleasure for you.

Frequently asked questions

Do RockStar Sailors get free drinks everywhere?

Standard RockStar Quarters receive a curated in-room bar with a selected first round included. Mega RockStar Sailors have a broader current beverage benefit. Review the latest terms for limits and exclusions.

Is Richard's Rooftop included?

Yes. Access to Richard's Rooftop is a published benefit for RockStar and Mega RockStar Sailors.

Do RockStar Sailors get priority restaurant reservations?

Virgin advertises early booking and priority access to eateries, events and experiences. Reservation timing and availability remain subject to the current policy and sailing.

Is RockStar the same as a luxury ship-within-a-ship program?

Not exactly. It adds meaningful priority, service and private-deck benefits, but most of the Virgin experience remains shared with the rest of the ship.

Which RockStar suite should I choose?

Choose according to layout, location, terrace, party size and price. The category name alone does not reveal every difference, particularly for aft and corner layouts that vary by deck.
